St. John's UCC in Crown Point, IN is a conservative group of people who love God, their families and community. We strive to meet folks at the point of their need in sharing the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ! We are good people serving a GREAT GOD!
Pastor Wendell Thacker has been serving the Lord in various ways for the past 40 years as a pastor, teacher, pianist and youth outreach minister. He enjoys people and seeing God meet everyone at the point of their personal need. He is married to Kathleen and together they have 6 amazing adult children and 11 precious grandkids
Pastor Wendell accepted the call to lead St. John's UCC in February of 2016. He is a 1978 graduate from Valparaiso University and earned a Masters Supplement in Biblical Exposition from Moody Bible Institute in May 1979. Faith Baptist Church in Melrose Park, IL ordained him to the Gospel Ministry in April of 1984 where he served as Youth Minister and Associate Pastor. He assumed the church pastorate several years later in August 1988 and served in that position until leaving in July1995 to pursue God’s calling in general Christian ministry areas. Pastor Wendell is faithful in teaching and preaching the Bible as God's Word for our daily lives.
Char Hise
Admin Assistant
Char Hise has handled secretarial and administrative duties at St John's UCC since the Springl of 2015. She has a big heart and listening ear keeping in tune with for the pulse of the church.
She is married to husband Rick. Both have been St. John's members since Spring of 2016. She is reachable most weekdays from 10 am to 2 pm in the church office at 219-663-1608.

Kathy is one special lady. She and Pastor Wendell have been married for 11 yrs. As our Children's Ministry teacher Kathy helps our kids cope and find answers in the changing world teaching Bible truths to grow on. She loves kids, crafting, gardening and a good Hallmark movie! She is a blessing to our St. John's Church family!
Jim Haag
Church Council President
Jim Haag has been leading the business side of St John's UCC for the past 13+ years! He is a retired plumber and a life long member of the church that he loves. He enjoys time with family, friends and quiet moments in their lovely backyard! Jim is one of the good guys! Always helping someone!
Sandra May
Building Maintenance
Sandy has been maintaining our building for the church and Gingerbread Preschool for the past 10+ years. She frequently enlists the aid of her husband Tony . Together they keep our facility spotless. Members of St. Johns for many years, they enjoy time with family, friends and varied other interests.
Laura has shared her musical talents and love for the Lord at St. John's UCC for the past 15+ years. She enjoys providing musical accompaniment for group or solo efforts. Her musical ministry extends into several area nursing homes providing joy for so many. We are thankful for her "can do" attitude and willing spirit to serve the Lord. She is an active contributing member of the St. John's UCC Church Council governing body and a proud mom to two adult children. She is a blessing to all who know her!
